Hope 4 You Breast Cancer Foundation was able to give $5,000 to both Mercy Hospital Joplin and Freeman Health System a few weeks ago. These donations are possible thanks to our generous sponsors and events like the Race 4 Hope and Pink Bagel Campaign.
Thank you 4-states for your continued support that allows us to give back to help women get the mammograms they need. All money raised goes to support underinsured or uninsured breast cancer patients. Early Detection is the Key to survival.
A German study from February 2016 shows more than 80% of women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer has symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder between diagnosis and the start of treatment. The signs include: nightmares, extreme irritability, feeling emotionally numb, lack of appetite, memory problems, and self-destructive behavior.
While a full PTSD diagnosis was rare, most women diagnosed with breast cancer showed at least one symptom of PTSD over the year that the study took place. There's good news though - the symptoms of PTSD did subside after some time had passed.
You can read more about PTSD as it relates to breast cancer here
The 9th Annual Race 4 Hope took place Saturday, June 4th 2016. Despite ominous clouds in the distance, more than 250 participants showed up to the MSSU Cross Country Course. Thankfully, the rain held off and runners and walkers alike said the course was challenging, yet fun.
One of the most emotional moments in the morning brought tears to nearly everyone's eyes - the Survivor Walk. Dozens of brave women proudly walked in front of the crowd to show how they are beating cancer. Some survivors even ran the race!
This event would not be possible without our Race Chair Wendy Chrisenbery, Honorary Survivor Chair Amy Graskemper, and over 50 amazing volunteers. Thank you so much for your time and service!
As always, all money raised stays local for the Hope 4 You Breast Cancer Foundation to help women pay for mammograms. Stay tuned for more information on next year's event. We'll see you there!
